Random thoughts

Several things have caught my attention in the last week or so that I've wanted to blog about but I just haven't had the time. So I'm going to follow in the footsteps of other bloggers I know and give you an annotated list. Enjoy!

1) Caucuses and Primaries: When I first started blogging, one of my favorite topics to discuss was politics. I am fascinated by the ins and outs of the American democratic system. But then the current administration entered via a court ruling and quickly shut down any public participation in the governing process. Following that, I found it painful to even think about politics. I realized recently that the strong field of Democratic contenders for the office of the President has revitalized my interest in politics again. I actually watched reporting on both the Iowa and New Hampshire votes as well as many of the debates by the Democratic candidates. I'm glad to have politics back in my life.

2) Mavericks surf contest: This year's contest was staged yesterday off Pillar Point in Half Moon Bay, Calif. Record crowds turned out to witness the insanity of surfers going up against 20-30 foot waves. In addition, there were many other ways to follow the competition - including watching it at AT&T Park or streaming online. Check out the official Maverick's page or read the local paper's take on it.

3) MacWorld: It's January. That means that MacWorld is coming to San Francisco's Moscone Center. I have never attended and won't be able to again this year. But I still enjoy following the goings-on. I freely admit that I have drunk the Apple coolaid and am a complete fan of everything they do.

Those are some highlights from what I've been thinking about over the last week.
